Case study

DexMat — World of Galvorn

Summary

Needs

In a market focused on conventional materials, Galvorn needs to raise awareness of its eco-friendly benefits. Our team developed an engaging digital walkthrough that showcases Galvorn’s unique features while contrasting its positive environmental impact with the heavy footprint of traditional materials like iron, aluminum, and Kevlar. This interactive experience aims to educate and inspire, highlighting Galvorn’s potential to create a better future.

My Role

Collaborating closely with the creative director, I focused on tackling Galvorn’s primary challenge: making the large-scale environmental impact of conventional materials tangible and relatable. We envisioned an ‘ideal world’ city where Galvorn replaced traditional materials to showcase its potential. My role involved illustrating this vision creatively and strategically. I highlighted city structures and materials that could benefit from Galvorn, cleverly embedding these applications to show their environmental impact as users interacted with the site. As users clicked through the experience, they could explore how Galvorn could replace standard materials, seeing clear, interactive comparisons between conventional materials and Galvorn’s sustainable benefits. Additionally, I developed the full illustration walkthrough for the website and collaborated with the web developer to ensure smooth navigation and impactful storytelling, guiding users through an engaging, intuitive journey that showcased Galvorn’s transformative applications.

Approach

Process

The development of this project was a collaborative and iterative process.

Working closely with the creative director and developer, I began by identifying the core challenge: making conventional materials’ environmental impact relatable and engaging.

Together, we brainstormed and sketched out the concept of an ‘ideal world’ city where Galvorn could replace standard materials, using wireframes, inspiration boards, and iterative designs to refine the experience.

Challenges

As we moved into the buildout phase, we faced several key challenges. First, the creative director expressed concern that users might not stay engaged throughout the walkthrough.

Additionally, we encountered difficulties with ensuring smooth transitions between scenes in the city layout, balancing flow and continuity while navigating budget and time constraints.

Solution

To address engagement, I suggested incorporating a simple, informative quiz, knowing that users enjoy experiences that make them feel knowledgeable.

We developed a Galvorn ‘personality quiz’ with fun, accessible questions and humorous GIFs, keeping users engaged and subtly reinforcing Galvorn’s value. We adjusted our approach to tackle the scene transitions, simplifying transitions to maintain a logical flow.

Though budget and time-limited our options, I would have loved to incorporate more illustrations or animations with additional resources. Regular meetings with the developer allowed us to balance impact and feasibility, resulting in a cohesive, engaging user experience despite these limitations.
